Thanks to the expanded meta game and daily rewards system, post launch saw an increase of user playtime of more then double. Users went from playing 15-20 minutes to sticking around for well over an hour a day.

We received feedback from teachers that their students were asking for more time to play after the launch of the new hub, it was a total success.

Thanks to this new design it was also extremely expandable with a release schedule of new theme worlds and tile sets.

The Outcome:

The Solution:

I started by creating an ideation board in Miro and exploring different ideas. I ultimately was inspired by a tile based table top game and created an isomorphic tile map prototype.

I refined the idea and created a meta game in which the user earns points of interest for completing activity sets that they can place anywhere on their tile map.

To encourage replay-ability I designed the map to be procedurally generated with different tile sets and environment toppers.

The company greenlit a new expansion of My Reading Academy into 2nd to 5th grade education. This presented a new challenge and opportunity as the app currently was designed with a younger audience in mind.

I was tasked by my design director to design an entirely new HUB and meta game experience for this older audience.

This design needed to have a fast development cycle, encourage longer playtimes, and be scalable for future expansion.
